I visited Wahaca Southbank at the end of June for a quick bite to eat during my lunch break with some colleagues (and it was so delicious I went back the next day for some more…!).
This Mexican street-food restaurant is on the terrace of the Queen Elizabeth Hall, with over 100 seats spread over two floors with impressive views of the river.
From the moment we entered to the very end, the service was excellent – smiley, attentive, friendly and very helpful. I loved the energetic and buzzing atmosphere with funky music and very colourful surroundings, that actually made you feel like you had been transported to Mexico.
The menu is easy to read and full of choices. I also have to mention the really good selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes. We ordered tortilla chips with guacamole dip, sweet potato and feta taquito, chicken and avocado tacos, crab tostada and Sonora salad with chargrilled steak. The food was fresh, tasty and full of flavour – probably the best guacamole I ever tried in London! Portions were impressive with an excellent price to quality ratio.
Passion fruit margaritas are a must! We were too full for dessert (I will definitely come back to try their churros another day) so we ended up the meal with a shot of tequila and spicy tomato juice on the side, which came highly recommended by the bartender. Overall, I had a great experience and I will certainly make it one of my regulars.
If you are looking for delicious small plates, fab cocktails and lovely service, go to Wahaca!
